U-10 Format Change for 2010-2011 - PLEASE READ

To all Under 10 Coaches, Managers and Parents, The Sportsplex has been trying to get the word out that this year we have changed the format of the U-10’s indoor soccer leagues. The national trend for U-10’s and the recommendations of U.S. Soccer is for U-10’s to play with a smaller number of players on the fields and with smaller fields. Pursuant to CDYSL decreasing U-10 field sizes and decreasing U-10 players on the field to 5 plus a goalie, the Sportsplex has acted accordingly. Therefore, for the 2010-2011 indoor soccer seasons, U-10’s will be playing 5 field players plus a goalie as opposed to the 6 field players plus a goalie that was always played at the Sportsplex in the past. In addition, the field size has been decreased proportionally as well. Indoor soccer is supposed to be played on smaller fields than outdoor soccer. Indoor soccer is a time for players to develop their skills in smaller quarters and get many touches on the ball. It is a nice transition to play indoor soccer on smaller fields and then to expand the game onto larger fields when outdoor play occurs in the spring. The regular indoor fields at the Sportsplex are adult size 6v6 fields and are much too large for U-10’s to play indoor soccer with only 5 field players plus a goalie.
